A Whole Latte Murder: A Java Jive Mystery
Author: Caroline Fardig
Publication Date: November 8, 2016
Coffeehouse manager and reluctant sleuth Juliet Langley returns in a gripping novel from the bestselling author of Death Before Decaf and Mug Shot. Just as things are perking up in Nashville, a serial killer sends tensions foaming over.
Juliet’s personal and professional lives have recently received an extra jolt of energy. Her romance with the hunky detective Ryder Hamilton continues to simmer, and business at Java Jive has never been better. But her good mood quickly turns as stale as day-old espresso when she finds out that Ryder has been promoted to his precinct’s homicide division. With him risking his life to catch the worst kind of criminals, Juliet’s growing sense of unease ignites when a local college student goes missing.
Suddenly every Nashville resident is on high alert, especially Juliet’s neighbor Chelsea. Juliet does her best to calm the girl’s nerves, but her worst fears are confirmed when she finds Chelsea dead. Even though she tries her best to stay out of it, Juliet’s involvement puts a strain on Ryder’s first homicide case. The situation soon becomes even more personal for Juliet and her best friend Pete Bennett when one of their employees disappears during her shift. As a killer lurks in the shadows, Juliet, Pete, and Ryder seek out a double shot of justice.
Jules (the name Juliet prefers to go by in the book) always ends up in the middle of a murder investigation, even when she doesn’t mean to. First, her young neighbor is found murdered and then one of Jules employees goes missing. Is the missing employee the next murder victim? If you have read any other books in this series, you know Jules will jump into this investigation, even though her boyfriend Ryder has made her promise to stay out.
The sexual tension between Jules and her best friend Pete continues on in the third book. Halfway through the book I found myself annoyed that it continues on, maybe because I like Ryder (Jules detective boyfriend) and hope Pete doesn’t mess with their relationship. I feel like at this point they either get together or get over this sexual tension. Do they get together or not in book 3? I don’t give spoilers!
I will admit, I usually do not like Murder Mystery books but there is something about these books and the main character Jules that I really enjoy. She is funny, tough, kind and independent which are great traits for a main character. Just like with book 2, I was guessing until the end on who the murderer was. I definitely recommend this series of books and have links below to all three. A Whole Latte Murder is currently on Pre-order and will be available on November 8, 2016.
